Markie Joe Gunter September 1, 1954 - November 30, 2020

Markie Joe is the loving husband of Mary Frances Buyck Gunter. Markie Joe and Mary have been married for 38 years. He is the father of Joseph “Joe” Braxton Gunter and his fiancé Allison Shumpert and Kristina Gunter Goins and her husband Destin. Markie Joe is the "Pop" of Noah Braxton Gunter, Conner James Gunter, Grayson Lane Goins, and Graham Michael Goins. Markie Joe is the son of Margaret Hoover Gunter and the late Alfred Govan “Jack” Gunter, Sr. Markie Joe is the brother of Alfred G. Gunter, Jr. and his wife Cathy. His loyal pet companion is Princess. Markie Joe is a member of St. Paul Pentecostal Holiness Church, Swansea. He graduated from Wagener Salley High School in 1972, "the best class". Markie Joe lived every day of his life to the fullest. He enjoyed laughing and making others laugh. Even during his illness, he always remained positive and never complained. He thought family was everything. He loved his family and devoted his life to them. The Gunter family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to the Blood and Marrow Transplant Team, the Pulmonary Transplant Team, and the nursing staff of MUSC. They are also thankful for the care and love shown by Robert "Rob" and Charlotte "Shot" Crider. Memorials may be made to Rocky Grove Baptist Church Ramp Ministry P.O. Visitation will be 6-8 pm on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at the chapel of Blizzard Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Funeral Service will be 2 pm Thursday, December 3, 2020 at Rocky Grove Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Due to the current pandemic, Social Distancing will be enforced and masks are required.
