Clark Richard Orwick
March 10, 2021
I was profoundly saddened to learn of the passing of my navy buddy, Clark Orwick.
He, like my other navy buddy, Jerry had found the meaning of life in their careers and whereas I have not they at least passed this earth in a state of satisfaction with their lives.
Clark was an actor who portrayed the dummy Smuj for Ded Bob, an act indigenous to Renaissance Festivals primarily in — but not limited to — Michigan and Texas.
We had corresponded briefly a few years back when Jerry Landry passed away at Cape Cod and I had entertained the notion of traveling to a venue on his itenerary and catching the show.
Alas, that won't be happening now. He suffered for six weeks in a Michican ICU from what is characterized as “a massive heart attack”.
I have been unable to locate a formal obit for Clark and as such I wanted to mark his passing with as much respect as I could, hence this writeup by my own hand.
I have surmised from the various tributes I have gleaned that he pretty much was the same Clark I knew in the Navy.
That which I will miss most are his conversation, grasp of both humanity and topics, as well as the humor he exhibited in all aspects of life.
Smart, funny, generous, adventurous, an audiophile and known for universal participation with and support of others.
I am so glad at this juncture that we took the trip from the ship to his father's home in Atlanta to deliver his personal effects when he was reaching his end of active obligated service in the Navy.
We made the 500 mile trip from pier poppa to atlanta in Vera, my green Vega suffering one flat tire and no other issues along the way.
I wish I hadn't dragged my feet in traveling to the Renaissance fair to see him as it crossed my mind so many times in the past.
Rest in peace my dear old friend.
